C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Salt Lake City, Utah, from May 4-8 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.

Greg Smoak, director of the American West Center at the University of Utah, talked about Utah’s Great Salt Lake, the Native Americans who used the land, and the European explorers who first saw the Lake. He visited sites that attracted vacationers and tourists during the late 19th and early 20th century, and talked about some industries that have grown in the area due to the resources that the lake has to offer.
