Witnesses testified at a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) proposal to assert authority over electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and other non-regulated tobacco products. The proposal included prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to minors, and requiring FDA approval and a health warning label for new tobacco products. Mitch Zeller, director of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products said e-cigarettes had the potential to do harm and good, but more studies were needed. Tim McAfee, director of the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health, also testified. close
