Ray LaHood talked about his Building America’s Future group’s view that U.S. competitiveness and economic and job growth were all severely imperiled by the country’s collapsing transportation infrastructure. He cited “crumbling roads” and unsafe bridges as two examples, and said the U.S. had “the worst infrastructure that anyone can remember in the history of our country.” He also talked about the gas tax that supports the Highway Trust Fund, which without action from Congress would run out of money as soon as August 2014. close
