Panelists talked about the implications of improving relations between Russia and China. Following the May 20-21, 2014, summit in Shanghai between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the two countries signed a $400 billion deal for Russia to pipe natural gas across the border to China. The panelists agreed that the deal was mutually beneficial for both sides but that China was walking away with the better deal. close
