President Obama spoke to reporters about escalating violence in Iraq. In June 2014, the militant group ISIS* seized several cities in northern and western Iraq. President Obama reported that he was receiving updates from his security team and that the U.S. would be supporting the efforts of the Iraqi government but would not be sending troops. He said that the escalating violence in Iraq should serve as a “wake-up call” to the Iraqi government and that the Iraqis needed to show some political will. He responded to a few questions before departing for North Dakota and California.
