Anita Casavantes Bradford talked about the legacy of Operation Pedro Pan, during which the U.S. Government, from 1960-1962, aided Cuban parents in sending their children to the U.S. to escape the Castro regime. She explained the differing interpretations of the children’s exodus in the U.S. and Cuba, and how the custody battle over Elian Gonzales in 2000 reignited debate over Operation Pedro Pan. After her talk, several audience members who came to the U.S. as part of the operation took part in the discussion. close
