Mary Barra and Anton Valukas testified on General Motor' internal report on why the automaker waited so long to issue a recall on a defective ignition switch found in certain vehicles. Mr. Valukas was the attorney hired by GM to conduct the internal investigation. Ms. Barra, GM’s chief executive officer, told the committee she was saddened and disturbed by the findings in the report and vowed to continue to make changes. She also said she expected an independent committee to begin processing compensation claims by August 1, 2014, for victims seriously harmed. close
