Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions at the daily White House briefing. He spoke about the escalation of violence in Iraq and the consultations President Obama was having with congressional leaders in developing the U.S. response. This was Press Secretary Carney’s final briefing in front of the White House press corps. He was to be succeeded by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest. White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough appeared at the end of the briefing to thank Press Secretary Carney for his service. close
