President Obama announced his nomination of retired Proctor and Gamble Chair Robert McDonald, a West Point graduate and former army officer, for secretary of the Veterans Affairs Department. President Obama also spoke about steps the administration was taking to eliminate the long wait times for veterans receiving heath care and to steps to fix the problems at the Veterans Affairs Department while the investigations were continuing such as placing a hiring freeze on upper-level officials and stopping bonuses. close
