Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Martin Dempsey spoke to reporters on the situation in Iraq. Secretary Hagel said the mission was twofold, one to protect the U.S. Embassy and personnel, the other to assess the situation and provide help to Iraqi leaders. Both stressed that U.S. troops would not be engaging in combat and that the problem in Iraq could not be solved by an exclusively military solution but by the Iraqi government becoming more inclusive of Sunni people. close
