Former government officials talked about President Obama’s foreign policy approach toward the Middle East. They compared the Obama administration’s foreign policy with the former Bush administration. Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Chas Freeman talked about what he called the “deplorable state” of current Middle East policy and said that most of U.S. foreign policies were at a dead end. Topics included what the U.S. role should be in Syria, Egypt, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Russia and Iran were also discussed.
