President and Mrs. Nixon left the White House on August 9, 1974, following his resignation speech the night before. They were seen off by Vice President and Mrs. Ford and the White House staff as they boarded the helicopter Army One on the way to Andrews Air Force Base for the flight to Yorba Linda, California. While he was somewhere over Missouri, his resignation went into effect.
