Alexander Ramsey House Jayne Becker talked about Minnesota’s first territorial governor, Alexander Ramsey, and gave a tour of his home and the collection it houses. Alexander Ramsey served as the first Territorial Governor of Minnesota from June 1, 1849 to May 15, 1853 as a member of the Whig Party. In 1861, Ramsey was the first state governor to answer President Abraham Lincoln’s call for troops at the outbreak of the Civil War. Ramsey went on to be elected as a U.S. Senator and served as Secretary of War under President Rutherford B. Hayes.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in St. Paul, Minnesota, from July 21-24 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
