U.S., African, and World Bank officials spoke about economic development in Africa and the modernization and renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Secretary Kerry spoke about the importance of AGOA to increasing trade in Africa and called for improvements in regional integration and reducing barriers to trade. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman spoke about the benefits of AGOA to U.S-African relations and called on Congress to renew the legislation. African Union Commission Deputy Chair Erastus Mwencha spoke about the importance of the U.S.-Africa partnership.
