Future of the Women's Rights Movement
C-SPAN Radio’s Nancy Calo read news headlines at the conclusion of the program.
Eleanor Smeal talked about the Feminist Majority Foundation, which focuses on issues including women’s equality and reproductive health and publishes Ms. Magazine. She discussed the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case, focusing in particular on Justice Anthony Kennedy’s opinion in the decision as well as his views on women’s rights in general in other decisions. The case involved the provision of the Affordable Care Act that mandates contraception coverage. She also reacted to a New York Times piece that claimed the Supreme Court was advancing gay rights but delivering setbacks to women’s rights.
