Professor Brian Dirck talked about Abraham Lincoln’s life as a method of understanding white American’s views on race and slavery both before and during the Civil War. Professor Dirck argued that prior to his presidency Lincoln was very much a “typical American.” He also spoke about Lincoln’s interactions with both slaves and white supremacists.
