Douglas Elmendorf talked about a Congressional Budget Office report issued the previous day that suggested the federal budget deficit had fallen to $506 billion, less than one-third of what it was in the 2009 peak year, but a little higher than projected earlier in 2014. The report also said the federal debt was rising and projected that during the year it would rise to the highest level since 1950 and continue rising in the years immediately ahead. After the interview the reporters discussed his responses with the host. close
