Attorney General Eric Holder briefed reporters and responded to questions on the Justice Department’s investigation in the Ferguson, Missouri police department in the wake of the August 9, 2014, police shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown. The investigation would analyze police use of force, traffic stops, searches, and treatment of detainees. Attorney General Holder acknowledged that his visit to Ferguson may have influenced the decision to investigate the department and he expressed his belief that there needed to be a national conversation on race.
