General John Campbell briefed reporters by satellite from Kabul on U.S. operations in Afghanistan. He announced the NATO had 40,000 troop on the ground, and that the drawdown plan was on pace for the year. General Campbell also addressed reports of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) soldiers being killed, describing the number as exaggerated by the press. In addition, he said Taliban activity had increased at the end the fighting season, but added that their morale was low.
