Taney served as chief justice of the United States from 1836 to his death in 1864 and delivered the majority opinion in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. Professor Huebner spoke about public opinion of Chief Justice Taney and how it was shaped by the changing political landscape leading up to and during the Civil War. He was introduced by Associate Justice Antonin Scalia.
