James Oliphant talked about his National Journal article, “When Judges Go Courting.” The piece focuses on the impact to judicial elections in the 39 states that hold elections for state-level judges since the Supreme Court’s rulings in Citizens United v. FEC in 2010 and Republican Party of Minnesota v. White in 2002 . Citizens United allowed unlimited spending by outside groups in elections, and the Minnesota case said that judicial candidates have free speech rights. close
