Stuart Rothenberg, along with Beth Bronder and former Governor John Engler, gave opening remarks at CQ Roll Call’s Election Impact Conference. He said the outcome of the 2014 midterm elections should not have been shocking. Despite the Republicans winning control of the Senate and gaining additional seats in the House, he predicted continued challenges for congressional Republican leadership within their own party from rank and file members. He concluded by saying many outstanding questions remained, and that he expected Congress would still struggle to “get things done.”
