Democratic presidential nominee Gov. Bill Clinton spoke to supporters in a “get out the vote” drive on the Mall in Washington, DC, sponsored by the National Council of Negro Women. Gov. Clinton, wearing a casual sport shirt, presented Ms. Height with flowers for her birthday, and spoke on the need for opportunity in the U.S., calling for the American people to act like a family to provide opportunity for all Americans. Following his prepared remarks, Gov. Clinton shook hands with supporters. He approached the microphone again to urge the audience to help the voter registration drive and to introduce Rev. Jesse Jackson. Rev. Jackson recalled the works of civil rights leader Martin Luther King to urge the audience to vote and register others to vote. close
