Panelists talked about the oversight role of Congress at the intersection of privacy and technology. Annie Anton said that as terrorists and criminals were getting smarter than ever, improved privacy threat modeling and strong encrypt were critical for combating cyber-terrorism. Topics include the lack of technological expertize on congressional committees that had led to the writing of legislation that could not be implemented.

“Privacy Interests in the Counterterrorism Context and the Impact of Technology” was the second session of the public meeting on “Defining Privacy” held at the Washington Marriott Georgetown Hotel. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board was created to oversee the balance of privacy and security. close
