Representative John Lewis (D-GA) received the 2014 Freedom Award from the U.S. Capitol Historical Society. Representative Lewis was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights movement during the 1960s, serving as chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and helping to organize the March on Washington and voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. He represented Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District since he was first elected to the House in 1986. close
