The spread of slavery was debated regularly during the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Douglas argued the country should expand into these areas and settle them as slave states. Lincoln was convinced the best way to end slavery was to prevent it from spreading any further.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, from November 16-20 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.
