Civil rights leaders, colleagues, and friends of the late Marion Barry gathered at the Washington Convention Center for a funeral service for former Washington, D.C, mayor, who died on November 23, 2014. The ceremony was called “The DC Celebration of the Journey of Mayor for Life.” Some of the many speakers included Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, Marion Barry’s son Christopher, his widow Cora, and the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who delivered the eulogy.
