Automaker executives and federal safety officials testified at a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing on defects in vehicular airbags manufactured by Japanese supplier Takata that had prompted a series of recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was calling for a nationwide recall of Takata driver-side airbags. Takata refused to expand the recall nationwide, saying its data showed only vehicles in high temperature and high humidity were affected. The representative from Honda announced a nationwide recall, but was the only auto manufacturer that agreed to do that. close
