Justice Stephen Breyer spoke with David Rubenstein about the importance of Magna Carta on its 800th anniversary. They also talked about the document’s influence on American law.

The two men spoke at the Library of Congress, where a 1215 copy of the Magna Carta was on display. King John originally signed the document, under pressure from his barons, at Runnymede, England. American revolutionaries looked to the rights guaranteed by the Magna Carta when they rebelled against the English crown. close
