C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Austin, Texas, from December 2-6, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.

Gary Lavergne talked about his book, Bad Boy from Rosebud: The Murderous Life of Kenneth Allen McDuff, about the reasons behind Mr. McDuff’s release from prison and how his case brought about the restructuring of the third largest criminal justice system in the United States. In 1989, the State of Texas paroled Kenneth Allen McDuff, also known as the Broomstick Murderer, due to overcrowding the in prison systems. He was serving time on death row for the murders of three young people in 1966. Soon after his release, Mr. McDuff began killing again.
