James Fallows talked about his Atlantic cover story, “The Tragedy of the American Military.” In the piece he focused on the lack of engagement of most Americans in the wars the U.S. had been involved in during the preceding 12 years. He said that the number of Americans who had served in either Iraq or Afghanistan was “two-thirds of one percent of the American public.”
