Members of the Library of Congress' staff visited the conservation lab and talked about the original copy of Lincoln’s second Inaugural address. To commemorate the anniversary of the address, the Library of Congress displayed the President’s manuscript and reading copy of the speech from March 4-7, 2015, a limited time due to their delicate condition.

On March 4, 1865, President Lincoln gave his second inaugural address on the east front of the U.S. Capitol. The country was still in the midst of the Civil War, but thousands gathered to hear the President speak. close
