Andrew O’Shaughnessy, author of The Men who Lost America: British Leadership, the American Revolution, and the Fate of the Empire, talked about the role played by British military leaders in the U.S. Revolutionary War. He spoke about General Henry Clinton who served briefly as Commander-in-Chief of the British army. General Clinton’s defeat at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island in January 1776 marked the first time during the war that American troops successfully defended against a British sea and land invasion. close
