The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, docket number 13-1314. The case involves Proposition 106, passed by Arizona voters in 2000, which amended the state constitution to remove congressional redistricting authority from the state legislature and grant it to a new and independent commission, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC). Republican legislators challenged the constitutionality of any body but the state legislature having the final say on congressional districts.
