Is Shame Necessary? Jennifer Jacquet talked about her book Is Shame Necessary?: New Uses for an Old Tool, in which she argues that public shaming can be a powerful tool in creating social and economic change. In her book, she argues that while protests and consumer boycotts are valuable tactics in changing the behavior of governments and corporations, public shaming can be even more effective.
