Panelists talked about the role of the Catholic Church in educating, organizing, and advocating for immigrant laborers from the 1800s to the 1940s. According to the Census Bureau, between 1850 and 1930, the foreign-born population of the U.S. rose from 2.2 million to 14.2 million, and many of these immigrants were Catholics from Europe.
