Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other leading Republican senators spoke to reporters about a human trafficking bill, which was stalled on the Senate floor over Democratic objections to an abortion rider contained in the bill. Senator McConnell announced he would allow a vote on removing the abortion language from the human trafficking bill at 2 p.m. that day. Senator Cornyn, the sponsor of the legislation, called the Democrats' objection to the standard Amendment Hyde language saying that no tax dollars could be used for an abortion a “phantom” problem and obstructionism. Other topics addressed included an incident the previous week with drunken Secret Service agents and the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. close
