Senator John McCain (R-AZ) criticized Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) previous-day remarks about the Senate asking Loretta Lynch to sit at the “back of the bus” by delaying a vote on her attorney general nomination. Senator McCain called the remarks “totally inappropriate” and “beneath the decorum and dignity of the United States Senate.” He said that Senator Durbin owed the Senate and Ms. Lynch an apology.
Senator Durbin responded, saying that Ms. Lynch’s attorney general nomination had been pending longer than any nominee for that post in the past thirty years. He called the Senate “insensitive” for holding up her nomination for so long. close
