Colonel Daniel King announced that Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl had been charged with desertion. Sergeant Bergdahl left his Army post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was subsequently held captive by the Taliban for five years. He was returned to the U.S. as part of a prisoner exchange in 2014.
