Ford’s Theatre hosted a commemorative ceremony on the 150th anniversary of the day of President Lincoln’s assassination. Ford’s Theatre recreated the overnight vigil for President Lincoln, in which more than 150 participants in Civil War costumes kept a candlelight watch on the street. The historical interpreters also provided narration on Lincoln’s assassination, including reports from theatre eyewitnesses and medical updates on the president’s condition. James Swanson, author of Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, and David Reynolds, editor of Lincoln’s Selected Writings, also spoke about their books and responded to viewer calls. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell also attended the event and made informal remarks to others in attendance. close
