Nancy Cook talked about the effects of “long-term” unemployment, meaning unemployed for six months or longer. She said that in 2010, at the height of the great recession that officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009, about 6 million people were classified as long-term unemployed. As of the March 2015 jobs numbers, the number had dropped to about 2.6 million, still considered a large percentage of the unemployed. close
