Cynthia Harris, co-author of Hometown Appetites, talked about the largely forgotten American food writer Clementine Paddleford, who by the 1950s and 1960s had built a readership of 12 million people and earned a salary of $250,000. Ms. Harris co-wrote the book with food writer Kelly Alexander.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Topeka, Kansas, from April 5-9 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
