Walter McCormick and Christopher Lewis talked about legal challenges to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) new Internet regulations. Walter McCormick is president and chief executive officer of U.S. Telecom, one of five organizations that had filed lawsuits against the FCC over the regulations. Christopher Lewis, Public Knowledge vice president for government affairs, supports the FCC’s regulations.

The FCC plan calls for regulating the Internet like a public utility. Its intent is to make sure that service providers do not block or slow traffic but that the Internet remains “open” and “neutral.” The proposal would also extend the regulation to mobile phones and other devices and allows the FCC to step in and address issues as they arise. close
