The German Bundestag hosted a memorial ceremony on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. May 8, 1945, marked the formal acceptance by the Allied forces of Germany’s unconditional surrender. The ceremony included speeches by the heads of both houses of parliament, as well as Heinrich August Winkler, a historian who has written about Germany in the 20th century. close
