Corey Malcom gave a tour of an exhibit containing salvaged wreckage of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha, a ship that sank off the coast of Key West, Florida, in the fall of 1622. The was carrying silver from Peru, gold and emeralds from Colombia, and pearls from Venezuela. Centuries after the shipwreck, American treasure Hunter Mel Fisher discovered the wreckage, and pieces from it are displayed at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Key West, Florida, from April 23-28 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
