The Development Group for Alternative Policies, an organization made up of representatives of several activist organizations, sponsored a forum in Washington, DC, on the impact of World Bank and International Monetary Fund reform programs on world policies. The speakers discussed economic development programs sponsored by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund that have had a disastrous effect on the environment and indigenous populations in developing countries. Speakers included activists from countries around the world. The forum consisted of three brief presentations on World Bank policies, followed by questions from reporters on workers, social impact, and economic performance under structural adjustment. Remarks made in other languages were translated by interpreters at the forum. close
