Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen testified on the May 2015 Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia that killed eight people. Amtrak Chief Executive Officer Joseph Boardman promised that safety technology known as Positive Train Control would be operational in the northeast corridor by the end of the year. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Chris Hart said that the NTSB was still investigating the Amtrak engineer’s cell phone records and that a Positive Train Control system could have prevented the crash. close
