In a portion of floor debate in the U.S. Senate, senators spoke on S. 12, the conference report on Cable Television Consumer Protection Act. The bill, which would allow greater regulation of cable television companies by local governments, passed in the House the previous week. President George H.W. Bush previously announced he would veto the bill. Supporters of the bill claimed it would promote competition among cable television companies and hold down costs, while opponents claimed the bill will result in higher prices for consumers. close
