Officials from the Department of the Interior and the Arizona and Washington state governments testified on drought conditions in several Western states. California officials had ordered a 25 percent reduction in water use by non-farm consumers, and similar drought emergencies were declared in Washington and Oregon.

The witnesses focused on actions their states were taking to address the drought. They also made recommendations for next steps, such as increased water storage and collection in anticipation of future drought, and water purification and desalination programs. Deputy Interior Secretary Michael Connor spoke about the state-federal partnerships and programs specific to states such as Washington, Wyoming, and Montana. close
