Representative Mark Sanford (R-SC) spoke about the June 17, 2015, shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. He read the names of the nine victims and asked for a moment of silence. He was joined in the well of the House by other members of the South Carolina delegation, including its two senators, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Representative Jim Clyburn (D-SC) was not present because he was in South Carolina. close
